CONTRACTS, CONFLICTS, AND CREATIVE RIGHTS—HANDLED.

I’m a business lawyer with a practice that blends corporate and commercial transactions, litigation, and intellectual property strategy. I advise a diverse range of clients – from local entrepreneurs and small businesses to scaling tech startups and established corporations – on structuring deals, securing funding, managing disputes, and protecting their most valuable intangible assets. With a strong foundation in both transactional and litigation work, I deliver practical, business-minded legal solutions that meet clients where they are and help them grow with confidence.

Before returning to Kamloops, I worked at a national and global law firm where I advised on multi-million dollar transactions and other high stakes matters. I focused on due diligence, risk management, and complex contract negotiation, helping clients navigate financial and operational challenges in fast-moving business ventures.

Now back in Kamloops, where my legal career first began and where my dog Mikah was born, I bring big-firm experience to local and regional businesses with a grounded, community-minded perspective. I’m proud to support Kamloops-based companies, Indigenous communities, and mission-driven entrepreneurs seeking high-quality legal guidance.

AREAS OF PRACTICE

Corporate & Commercial Matters

My transactional practice includes:

  • Incorporations
  • Shareholder and founder agreements
  • Asset and share purchases
  • Employment structuring
  • Venture and equity financing
  • Business restructuring and succession planning
  • Cross-jurisdictional legal considerations

I work closely with founders and leadership teams to develop governance frameworks, negotiate commercial agreements, and build legal infrastructure that supports long-term growth. I’m particularly attuned to the needs of early-stage and scaling businesses navigating investor readiness, acquisitions, or complex structuring.

Intellectual Property Strategy

As an IP strategist, I assist clients with:

    • Trademark, copyright and patent portfolio development
    • Licensing agreements and IP audits
    • Brand and trade secret protection
    • Open-source licensing and confidentiality agreements
    • IP considerations in M&A and joint ventures

I regularly collaborate with inventors, product developers, creatives, and marketing professionals to protect and commercialize intellectual property. With deep insight into the startup and innovation economy, I understand the strategic role IP plays in shaping company value and attracting investment.

Litigation Practice

My litigation experience includes:

    • Commercial and intellectual property disputes
    • Contractual breaches and enforcement
    • Shareholder and partnership conflicts
    • Trademark infringement and passing off
    • Enforcement of restrictive covenants and licensing agreements

I’m adept at managing every stage of the litigation lifecycle, from early risk assessment and pre-litigation negotiation to interim relief, discovery, and trial. My dual background in advisory and litigation work allows me to develop clear strategies grounded in both legal precedent and business outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

I earned my J.D. from Thompson Rivers University, where I served as Managing Editor of the Canadian Journal of Comparative and Contemporary Law. With an academic bend to my practice, I co-authored a peer-reviewed article published in the Canadian Business Law Journal analyzing the evolution of exculpatory clauses and the doctrine of fundamental breach in Canadian contract law. The article has been recognized for advancing the understanding of contractual interpretation and the enforceability of liability waivers and was cited by the Supreme Court of Canada in Uber Technologies Inc. v. Heller, 2020 SCC 16 – a landmark case on arbitration clauses and access to justice. This scholarly foundation deepens my approach to advocacy, offering clients precision, critical insight, and clarity across all matters I handle.

OUTSIDE OF THE OFFICE

I enjoy embarking on epic road trips with my two dogs, Mikah and Bruno, who are convinced every highway exit leads to a new adventure (or a treat)

I am an avid supporter of the Toronto Raptors (yes, even now!)

I, through no fault of my own, often geek out over commercial aviation—I can talk aircraft types and flight routes with alarming precision.
