Federal Indian Hospitals Settlement: Claims Now

You Don’t Have to Go Through the Claims Process Alone

The claims process opened on January 27, 2026, and claims are now being accepted. Survivors and families may be eligible to apply under the Federal Indian Hospitals Settlement. This settlement is for people who were admitted to one of the eligible hospitals and suffered abuse during the time period covered by the settlement.

There are 33 hospitals included in the settlement.

Here in BC, the included hospitals are:

  • Coqualeetza Indian Hospital
    • September 1, 1949 – September 30, 1969
    • Fraser Valley, Lower Mainland

  • Miller Bay Hospital
    • September 16, 1946 – October, 1, 1971
    • Northern coastal BC

  • Nanaimo Indian Hospital
    • September 1, 1946 – November 20, 1966
    • Vancouver Island

If you think you might qualify, you may be considering whether to apply. The claims process can feel overwhelming and emotional, and you don’t have to go through it alone.

You have the right to choose your own lawyer, and legal fees will NOT be deducted from any award you may receive.

I helped many Survivors through the Indian Residential Schools settlement process, and I’m available to support Survivors again through this settlement.  I understand how difficult it can be to revisit the past, and I will guide you through the process with care, respect, and clear information, at your pace.

We can assist Survivors and families by:

  • explaining the process and eligibility in plain language
  • helping prepare and submit claims
  • supporting Survivors through trauma-informed interviews
  • helping gather and organize documents where needed
  • communicating with the claims administrator on your behalf
  • ensuring Survivors feel supported and respected throughout

If you are a Survivor, family member, or support person and want to talk about the claims process, we are here to help.
